All About Animal Advocates

October 6, 2022

The Animal Advocates club spreads awareness and supports animals in the community–and has been doing so for 18 years at El Rancho.

The club plans to do volunteer work like cleaning up beaches in the near future and possibly bringing therapy dogs onto campus as they have done in previous years. Animal Advocates is a great club to join if you love animals, are passionate about social issues, and want volunteer hours that will look good on a college application.

It is a very manageable club to join as it doesn’t take up time during after-school hours because the club meets during lunch on Tuesdays in room A-204.

Club advisor Mrs. Lamar is passionate about the club and advises it in order to “educate the El Rancho community and to support animals in our community.” She also said that she “love[s] animals” and has had a total of 5 dogs since the club started.

Lamar has been advising the club since it first started back in 2004. “ I would love to find a co-advisor if anyone else on staff loves animals and wants to help,” she said.

The club has been around for a long time on campus and wants to continue to make an impact on innocent animals for many more years to come.

Senior, Argentina Segovia was elected as vice president. “ Originally, I had planned on only being a member of the club and not part of the cabinet,” she said but is excited about this opportunity as she is passionate about animals.

Segovia said, “I feel that by informing others about topics such as animal care, I get to uphold the belief that animals should be able to get by without having to face horrors like abuse and exploitation” and because of this strong belief that she has, she hopes to “spread awareness about the many cruelties that are performed on animals and how we can prevent these from continuing.”

The club hopes for new recruits to help them on their journey. They have exciting plans throughout the school year and want more students to get involved. They aren’t as popular as other clubs on campus but they emphasize the fact that anyone is welcome to become a member.

With passionate leaders leading Animal Advocates and the values they uphold, it is definitely a rewarding club worth joining if you love animals and care about social problems involving innocent animals.
