Opinion: The boys bathroom needs a makeover
December 5, 2022
The boys’ restrooms at El Rancho are in desperate need of a revamp.
Out of the nearly 3,000 students here, about 51.4% of the student body is made up of males. One stall per restroom is not enough to satisfy the needs of the students.
There are only three outdoor restrooms on campus, not including the restrooms in the gym and next to the cafeteria. That is equivalent to three stalls. Three stalls are not enough for a school with around 1,500 males.
9 times out of 10, the bathrooms are either closed or occupied by someone else. They are treated poorly. The admin takes a long time to resolve issues with the restrooms, leaving them closed for longer than they should be.
In addition to the singular stall per restroom, there is only one urinal per restroom as well. Fortunately, this is not much of a problem due to the fact that it doesn’t take as long to use the urinal, but it acts as an inconvenience when there are multiple people that are waiting to use the restroom.
One complaint I have about the urinals, however, is the placement of the urinals. The urinals are facing directly towards the door, giving everybody peeking into the restroom a view of people using it. This makes for an uncomfortable situation as people have a clear view of you as you are peeing. The girls’ restroom has stalls that protect them from the view of the students walking by and are positioned to be hidden, unlike the boys.
However, the restroom in the G building has multiple stalls and is often clean. I believe the school should remodel the bathrooms to match the model of the restrooms in the G building.
We are in school from 8:30-3:30pm, even longer if students are involved in extracurricular activities. Having more clean bathrooms should be a top priority for students.
