Dons baseball is back
February 24, 2023
The El Rancho varsity Baseball team pinched out a win of 4-3 against Norwalk on February 17. Their win serves as a good omen as the team prepares for their first league game on March 8 against Santa Fe.
The brotherhood between the team has only grown over time. Coach Rios pointed out five specific players when asking about brotherhoods between the team and how teammates keep one another motivated.
Captains, Felipe De Alba, Juan Contrereas, and Justin Cardenas “truly describe what it means to be an El Rancho Dons Baseball player¨ said Coach Rios. Adding on, “They show up day in and day out and lead by example, working hard in the classrooms, practices, and being in the game no matter the outcome.”
Junior Noah Rios and Sophomore David Aguirre were also highlighted for “spreading their work ethic amongst the team regardless of the score.”
Contreras is the leader of pre-game rituals. Getting the team “locked in” or ready before games is a big part of being Captain. “You want everyone ready to go because you never know when it’s your last play, last-at-bat, or last throw,” said Contreras. The team listens to music on the road when traveling for away games and changes into their uniforms in complete silence in order to keep their heads in the game.
The boys are only as competitive as they are because of their coach. “Our coach plays a big role in our willingness to compete,” said Aguirre. Boys baseball has a packed schedule, always finding more opportunities to play and get better.
On February 22, they crushed Bell Gardens with a score of 11-0 and now have a record of 4-0. To stay updated with the team follow them on social media.
