The recent conflicts between Israel and Gaza have sparked widespread outrage across the world, with many people boycotting companies that have ties with Israel or support the Israeli government. While many political leaders and organizations are figuring out the best course of action, many individuals have decided to take measures and start boycotting as a form of political activism.
The ongoing devastating massacres in Gaza are disproportionately affecting women and children who bear the brunt of the violence. Mothers are constantly feeling the pain of losing their children due to every bomb that lands in their cities. They’re left with indelible marks on their hearts.
One of the major companies that people have been boycotting is Starbucks. They have faced accusations of supporting Israel after a pro-Palestine post was posted from their worker union.
According to local news sources, Starbucks has lost a total of eleven billion dollars since the start of the boycotts. Lots of people have been going to their local coffee shops and supporting small businesses to avoid giving any more money to Starbucks.
There are many different opinions on the boycotts currently taking place.
Joan Chitay, an acquaintance of mine has said, “I think they might be a little pointless since most of the people protesting in favor of them would be stoned by the people they are protesting for. The protest for a war is pointless since there is no strategic gain. It’s just over some religious squabbles”.
Another opinion comes from someone who doesn’t want to be named stated, “In my opinion, I think they’re effective and a good way to make a statement because it shows how companies consumers still have the power to not support this, as shown in the lack of money, and right now Starbucks is scrambling to get as much money as they can back with all the ads and the Stanley collabs’.
The conflict with Israel and Gaza has been a long-term issue with much historical background. The international community has an important role to play in finding a peaceful resolution to end the current genocide that is taking place.
