Living happily ever after with the love of your life is ideal. It’s undeniable that loving is a part of life whether that be platonic or romantic love. Romance is in the media and a part of the lifestyle culture, everyone desires to have a love like Romeo and Juliet, Rapunzel and Eugine, or even Spongebob and Sandy.
In this day and age, it’s not as easy to build a relationship with someone. In a new generation of love with social media and many ways to communicate with people, it’s hard to find someone who will be devoted to you and only you.
Divorce rates have risen since the 1980s and they don’t seem to be going down any time soon. Lack of commitment and lack of communication seem to be the main causes of divorce. 40-50% of first marriages end in divorce and that leaves little hope for younger people who do want to live the rest of their life with one person.
Especially with the rise of dating apps, it seems easy to find someone to connect with on a romantic level. 40% of couples in the US have met through a dating app and 70% of people on dating apps have formed a relationship with someone they met through an app. But, with the decline in loyalty and communication, it is harder to believe in love.
Overthinking and jealousy are major reasons why relationships don’t work out, which can then affect their later relationships. Social media has also played a major role in this as it is easier to be sneaky in apps where messages can later be deleted and where younger people can be influenced to be toxic to their partner by celebrities or influencers.
Then again, what’s the rush? Life is short but there is still so much time to find the right person. We are all individuals with our interests and opinions and finding love isn’t mandatory but if it’s something you want, there’s always hope for it if you’re willing to wait and work for it.
