Biology teacher Mrs. Maldonado and history teacher Mrs. Gonzalez have been awarded this year’s prestigious Natalie Zucker “Teacher of the Year” Honors Award. Maldonado and Gonzalez were recognized for their exceptional contributions to teaching and were each granted a $500 prize. This award is particularly special because it is bestowed upon teachers who are nominated by their colleagues rather than by students, adding an extra layer of significance to the accolade.
Maldonado faced unique challenges this past year as she undertook the task of teaching a new class, ELD. Despite the difficulties, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to supporting her students in every way she could, whether academically or personally. Her commitment to her students’ growth and well-being has clearly not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by the warm greetings and affectionate gestures she receives from her students as they enter her classroom. Maldonado wants to ensure that everyone knows just how thankful she is for this award and the profound impact it holds for her.
Gonzalez, a proud alumna of El Rancho and North Park, has a personal journey that has culminated in this well-deserved recognition. She attributes her passion for history to her former teachers, Mr. Sauceda and Mr. Francisco, who ignited her desire to become a history educator. Currently, she is not only teaching U.S. history and bilingual world history but also coaching girls’ tennis. The overwhelming support from her colleagues, many of whom were once her own teachers, has deeply touched her. The unexpected nature of the award has left Gonzalez feeling profoundly grateful and appreciative of the recognition.
Maldonado and Gonzalez’s outstanding dedication and commitment embody the spirit of excellence in teaching, and their recognition with the Zucker Teacher of the Year Award is a testament to their unwavering passion for education. We encourage you to join us in congratulating both Maldonado and Gonzalez on this well-deserved honor.
