The older we get, the more we tend to exclude more and more activities that we used to be excited about as kids, one of the most prominent being trick-or-treating with family or friends. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean we have to stop having fun entirely; many people still go out in search of candy in their late teens.
However, I always have this question in the back of my mind: can someone be too old to go trick-or-treating?
Some people might say there should be an age limit for many different reasons.
One reason could be that older treat-or-treaters might be scary or intimidating for the children out during the night, which is reasonable because parents most likely want their children to be safe and have the best experience possible.
Also, Halloween is not a holiday directly catered to children, but the younger community typically dominates trick-or-treating, making it slightly odd to some when they see a teenager out on Halloween.
On a side note, sometimes teens think they’re too cool to trick-or-treat.
On the other hand, Halloween is a holiday that should be celebrated by all, old or young; it allows everyone to be as creative as they want in their costumes and just have fun. Most teens that some consider to be “too old” for Halloween are on the way to graduation, so why shouldn’t they be allowed to take part in a fun tradition before adulthood?
There should not be an age limit to trick-or-treating, people of all ages should be allowed to have harmless fun and express themselves without being discouraged for growing up. I admit it, I used to think I wouldn’t want to trick-or-treat anymore because I thought teenagers don’t do that but now as graduation approaches, I realize that enjoying time with friends and family isn’t only for little kids, you should be enjoying yourself even if the activity seems like its “childish”.
That goes for so much more than just trick-or-treating too, don’t be afraid to do things that make you happy, whether it be going door to door for candy or having a tea party with stuffed animals; fun has no age limit.
