Egg babies on the horizon, Dons! Beginning from December 9th-13th, the Health classes will start one of the most known and fun challenges that many students do in high school: the Egg Baby Project!
For the entirety of this week, students from the Health classes taught by Ms. Flores, Ms. Sythe, and Ms. Berryhill will be in charge of nurturing their ‘egg babies’. This engaging project will allow the students to gain a better understanding of the obstacles that parenthood comes with. Lessons like this spark a sense of responsibility as they are going to be parents to eggs for the next few days.
As the project begins, the Health Department has notified all staff about the rules for this activity. All Health students are expected to keep a close eye on their eggs at all times, and more importantly, not in their backpacks!
The ‘egg babies’ should also not be a disruption to the learning taking place in class whatsoever. Ms. Sythe has asked all teachers and staff, “If you have a space in your room that could serve as a ‘nursery’ during your class, that would be great…”. Students are not only required to protect their egg baby from any injuries or accidents, this project is a way for students to be cognisant of the heavy responsibility of raising a child.
It also brings awareness to other important teachings such as providing for the child financially, healthcare, and managing your time properly when one has a child. The egg serves the purpose of challenging the students to be diligent with their babies, as they could be broken or destroyed if not properly cared for.
Freshman Jose Navarro says, “For this project, I am hoping to learn the importance of responsibilities more as I look after something fragile as an egg. I also think it’s important for me and students to participate in this project because it’s teaching us significant lessons that we can learn and carry with us in the future. It also is important since it shows what the reality is when people have an unplanned pregnancy”.
To avoid any destruction, please be understanding and respectful as you see our Dons take on the role of being parents and carrying their newly egg babies through the hallways for the next couple of days. Wishing the best of luck to all the Health students on this ‘egg-citing’ project!
