The Palisades and Eaton fires broke out on January 7 and are still not fully contained. In total, both fires destroyed over 17,000 structures, displaced thousands of families and burned down hundreds of businesses. Damage costs for both fires are over $250 billion.
The Palisades fire has burned over 24,000 acres. The cause of the fire is unknown but is under investigation. The high winds being a very big part of the start of the fire. The fire is now only about 25% contained from when it first started. The Palisades fire has taken 9 lives and is truly devasting.
The Eaton fire has burned over 15,000 acres. The fire is about 55% contained and has taken over 19 people’s lives. The apparent cause of the fire seemed to be sparks from an Edison electrical power line.
“The cause of the fire continues to be under investigation,” said Gariela Ornelas, a spokesperson from Edison
Edison has not yet taken fault for the cause of the Eation fire, and investigators continue to investigate.
