President Trump, inaugurated on January 20, signed an executive order that led 22 states to sue him over his decision to end birthright citizenship.
The 22 states (including California) and Washington D.C. are suing over the fact that the order violates the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
The 14th amendment states, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside”.
What does this mean for everyone?
This means that with this order, citizenship will not be granted to a person if they are born within the United States, rather it be on U.S. soil or U.S. waters. People usually flee their country for a reason,whether that may be to live a better life or to escape their own political troubles from the country they resided from.
It has not even been a full week since Trump’s inauguration and he’s already getting into legal trouble. This could possibly be a forecast as to what the next 4 years has for the United States with his presidency.
