In recent weeks, the United States has witnessed a surge of protests and walkouts in response to the Trump administration’s intensified deportation efforts. These actions have mobilized thousands across the nation, reflecting widespread dissent against current immigration policies.
On Feb. 2, 2025, significant protests erupted in major cities. Thousands gathered in downtown Los Angeles, with some demonstrators temporarily blocking the 101 Freeway to voice their opposition to increased Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the protesters eventually dispersed peacefully, and no arrests were made. (foxla.c)
Similarly, in San Diego, over 1000 participants marched from the Conventions through the Gaslamp Quarter, culminating at the “Coming Together” sculpture. That was organized in direct response to heightened ICE activities in the area.
In Houston, Texas, approximately 20,000 peaceful protesters marched from Ervan Chew Park to Hermann Park. Organized by immigrant-led civil rights groups, the demonstration was part of a nationwide series addressing recent ICE raids initiated by the administration.
On February 3rd, the “Day Without Immigrants” movement saw buses across the country close in solidarity with immigrant communities. The protest aimed to highlight the indispensable role immigrants play in the U.S. economy and society. Cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., witnessed numerous businesses shutting their doors, while thousands participated in rallies and marches.
The recent wave of protests and walkouts highlights the growing resistance against mass deportations and stricter immigration policies. From large-scale demonstrations in major cities to nationwide strikes like “A Day Without Immigrants,” communities are making their voices heard.
