Ace of Base is a Swedish pop group that formed in 1987. The group was built up with siblings Jonas, Linn, and Jenny Berggren, with Ulf Ekberg as an added touch. Their debut album earned nine times platinum, which was the album “Happy Nation”; later called “The Sign.” This was also a best-selling album when it came out and one of the most successful debut albums of all time, around 1994.
Their album was the first to have three songs land on the No. 1 singles on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart, which were “All That She Wants”, “The Sign” and “Don’t Turn Around.” They continued to make hits through the 90’s; so much so that they landed on third best-selling Swedish artist. Even today, they haven’t separated. They still do concerts and such! Now with this out of the way, it is time to talk about my favorite tracks!
The following is a list of their albums: Happy Nation (The Sign for English), Flowers, Da Capo (a remix album), and The Golden Ratio (their last studio album) along with 24 singles, and some compilations. So there are 308 songs in their discography! There are a lot of songs to go through.
I will go through some of these albums and my favorite songs from the group. I will start with their first album “Happy Nation.” I have enjoyed every song on this album. The track that stands out is the song that goes by the same title for the album, “Happy Nation”. This one gained recent popularity from edits and videos on social media but the song alone is great and worth a listen.
It is tough to go over every good aspect of their tracks but it is worth listening to everything more than once to feel the vibe.
I enjoy some songs more than others. For example, “Tokyo Girl,” is one of my favorites. The beat and overall vibe of the song make me feel like I could have fun doing anything, regardless of the situation. This song is definitely a must-listen, along with “Unspeakable,” and “All That She Wants”. Also, other great songs to listen to are “Love in December,” and of course, you can’t forget “Black Sea.”
I discovered this band a while back when looking for edits and found the song “Happy Nation,” before discovering they are now one of my favorite artists. Each song feels great to listen to; it helps that they are just actually good songs that age well. I highly recommend them, definitely worth a listen.
