Earlier this week, the Duolingo mascot (the iconic green owl) passed away in an accident with a cybertruck. According to a company post on X, authorities are still investigating the cause of death.
The company also stated on X “Tbh, he probably died waiting for you to do your lesson, but what do we know”.
While some users are mourning the Duo owl’s death, some appear to be relieved because they aren’t as pressured to do their language lessons after the iconic owl had multiple memes made of him for getting its users to learn the language they chose.
Furthermore, the message on X also states, “We’re aware he had many enemies…” and stating that “if you feel inclined to share, please also include your credit card number so we can automatically sign you up for Duolingo Max [Premium service of Duolingo] in his memory”.
In recent days, on X, the social media also revealed that its other characters have also been reported to be dead, as well as selling a coffin plushie of Duolingo and the characters that are also part of the app.
May Duo rest in peace.
