On May 1st, the House of Representatives voted to prevent California from banning the sale of gas cars by 2035.
What does this mean?
2020, Governor Gavin Newsom originally signed an executive order to ban the sale of new gas cars in the entire state (of California) by 2035. This also means that older and used gassed cars could still be sold but not new gas powered cars, plus if you had a gas car by 2035, you could still drive it.
The bill was originally made to lower emissions made by gas cars.
On May 1st, the bill was introduced into the House of Representatives and by the majority vote, made its way to the U.S. senate.
Rep. Kevin Kiley took to X stating “The House of Representatives just passed my Resolution to stop California’s insane gas car ban. It was a bipartisan vote. This is a major victory for common sense and a massive humiliation for Gavin Newsom.”
Gavin stated that Trump and the republicans are making California “smoggy” again in response to the house passing this bill.
Similarly, some critics are arguing stating that the house can not intervene with California and their executive order.
