Good news, Dons! The upcoming Monday, school will be closed in recognition of Memorial Day. While it may appear like an unofficial start to summer for many students, the holiday carries a much deeper and important meaning that deserves to be remembered.

Memorial Day is a day meant to honor and remember those men and women of the United States military who gave their lives to serve our country. The holiday was originally known as Decoration Day, following the Civil War, and has since become a national tradition of remembrance and gratitude to our soldiers.

While we enjoy the extra long weekend, make sure to take a moment to remember those who made sacrifices to protect our country.  Whether you decide to attend a ceremony, a memorial, or simply take a moment of silence, every act of recognition matters.

We should always recognize the weight that the United States military carries for us, not only on Memorial Day, but every day.
