The government shutdown began on October 1 and has already begun to affect many Americans in the U.S. Currently around seven hundred and fifty thousand federal employees are working without pay. Going into the second week of the shutdown, the U.S. is facing many services being disrupted around the country.
Examples of what is currently being affected by the shutdown are airports. At the moment, airports are going through flight delays because of the fact that air traffic controllers and unpaid TSA agents are struggling to keep up due to staff shortages. Lots of national parks have closed down, and many federal programs have come to a halt.
The government shutdown started due to lawmakers not coming to an agreement with the new spending bill, which started political conflict in Washington. Many economists report that each week that passes during the shutdown could mean the U.S. loses billions in services and productivity.
