Indoor activities to keep yourself entertained during a heatwave

September 12, 2022

Southern California has been experiencing a massive heatwave this past week with most parts of LA County like Pico Rivera reaching up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature is dangerously high and staying out in the blistering sun can cause heat-related illness.

Don’t let this ruin your mood and prevent you from having a great week! Maybe you won’t be able to take a nice walk outside or go for a swim without being at risk for heat exhaustion, but you can still find ways to keep yourself entertained.

Here are 5 different ways to keep yourself cool and entertained indoors.

  • Visit a public library

Feels like a sauna at home because your AC is broken? No worries! Visit your local library like The Pico Rivera Library, located at 9001 Mines Ave, Pico Rivera, CA 90660, and enjoy the fresh AC, while also reading a good book or catching up on a homework assignment.

  • Go watch a new movie

Are you bored at home with nothing to do? That’s fine! You can go to your local movie theater like Cinepolis, located at 8540 Whittier Blvd, Pico Rivera, CA 90660, and watch a new interesting movie that will make sure to keep you amused–and also prevent you from staying out in the hot sun.

  • Try out a new recipe

Don’t want to go out due to the heat? Want to be creative and try something new? Trying out a new recipe is a great way to find something new to do on a day you are stuck at home. Find whatever is in your kitchen and create an awesome dish or you can research recipes on a cooking website.

  • Play a game

Play a game with your family or friends and have some fun. Try out some new board games, play cards, or solve a difficult puzzle. You can even do karaoke or have a dance party to get you energized!

  • Get creative

Feels like there’s nothing to do? You can get creative and make fun arts and crafts.

This is the longest heatwave that California has experienced in September so make sure to stay cool and indoors and try out these fun activities. Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water, Dons!
