Summer jobs you should consider

April 25, 2023

Summer jobs that everyone should consider doing–especially if you are a teenager:

  • Babysitting

Babysitting is an easy way to make some quick cash. Contact family or friends who may need it. Although it may seem fun, it requires work. You are in charge of a person, or in some cases, multiple people. Babies are cute but require attention and patience. Typically, parents will give you money for food or other necessities. You are typically paid in cash.

  • Lifeguard

If you are experienced in the water, consider becoming a lifeguard. Before you begin you must get certified. As a lifeguard, you are required to know CPR and First Aid. And obviously, you must know how to swim. There are multiple options as to where you can work as a lifeguard. The pool, the beach, the park. The choice is yours.

  • Theme Park Employee

Many theme parks hire seasonal summer employees. As expected, during the summer there are more visitors, so theme parks require more workers. As a theme park employee, you should expect to work outside and in large crowds. Especially during the summer, the heat is almost unbearable. Prepare yourself. Theme parks are generally fun places to be, so working there should be an overall fun experience.

  • Camp Counselor

Camp counseling is typically a seasonal summer job. You have to be able to work with kids. As a counselor, expect to be active. Typically, the pay isn’t very high, but it is an overall good experience to have. Not only may being a camp counselor be fun, but you get paid along with the experience.

  • Internship

Internships are a great way to gain experience and make connections. Some are paid, while others aren’t. It is believed by some that unpaid internships are not worth it. If you are working for money, then an unpaid internship isn’t recommended and you are better off working a typical summer job that pays.  Paid internships are hard to come across, but if you do come across one and are interested, take the opportunity while you can.
