In recent years, businesses have been swapping plastic straws in favor of paper straws to counteract the amount of plastic in the environment. While this is good for the environment, plastic straws are better for people to use while drinking a beverage.
The reasoning behind this is that if you walk into a business and find that the establishment has paper straws as a way in which people can consume their beverage, it devalues the business from my point of view.
The business is trying to be more environmentally friendly by giving customers lower-quality straws for their beverage consumption. The paper straw also disintegrates when I use them, and the top becomes mushy. In places that offer paper straws, I tend to drink it without the straw because the paper straw makes it more challenging to consume the beverage.
To add to the business of swapping from plastic to paper straws, you’re destroying trees to create paper straws. If the company is so environmentally friendly, consider this: if you’re determined to destroy trees to have straws, then don’t even bother having straws in the first place.
The argument for banning plastic straws is weak. If the sewage system were maintained correctly, there wouldn’t be a reason to swap to paper straws in the first place. Plastic straws are better because they don’t fall apart when used.
Therefore, the usage of plastic straws is inherently better than the use of paper straws.
