The El Rancho Dons varsity boys basketball team has gotten off to a strong start in the 2025-26 season, holding a 5-3 overall record in games recorded so far, with league play still upcoming. They’ve competed in early December tournaments such as the Blue Pride Classic, including a 64-56 win against El Toro and a 53-44 win over Bosco Tech, as well as setbacks like a 40-52 loss to Wilson and a 37-52 loss to South El Monte. These results show a team that can score consistently in certain matchups while battling through tougher defensive opponents.
Statistically, the Dons’ offensive production has been led by senior guard/point guard Andrew Morones, who is scoring 16.5 points per game and also pacing the team with 6.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Guard Troy Barajas is the second leading scorer at 9.0 PPG, while William Soria contributes 7.3 PPG. In terms of shooting efficiency, Morones leads with a 53% field goal percentage, and Barajas and Soria both contribute solid minutes and effort on both ends of the floor.
On the glass and in the backcourt, El Rancho has shown balanced contributions, with Diego Garcia (3.8 RPG) and Adan Alvarez (2.8 RPG) supplementing Morones’ rebounding, while Morones also leads in steals with 22 on the season. Barajas and Soria add defensive pressure with 10 and 6 steals, respectively, and the team’s block leader is Alex Marquez with 7 total. These stats reflect a roster where senior leadership and perimeter play are critical to El Rancho’s competitiveness as they head into league games and adjust strategies for tougher conference opponents ahead.
