The El Rancho Dons varsity softball team has been off to a strong start this spring in 2026. So far the Dons have played three recorded games and have a 2-1 record overall, which is a good start before league play really gets going. Their first big win was a 13-11 victory over Norwalk High School, showing that the team can score runs and stay in close games early in the season.
After that win, El Rancho ran into a tough game at Brea Olinda, where they lost 9-3. Even though the result wasn’t what they wanted, the Dons bounced back right away. In their next game they beat Garfield High School 11-7, giving the team another solid win and keeping their momentum going.
Looking at some individual stats from MaxPreps shows who has been helping the team this year. Players like Malaya Vargas and Nathalia Gil have high batting averages early in the season, with Vargas hitting over .800 and Gil close behind with .800 too. Vargas also has one of the top slugging percentages on the team, which means she’s been getting extra-base hits. El Rancho also has players stealing bases, like Raeanna Ruacho, who has already reached 3 stolen bases so far.
The Dons haven’t started league games yet, but they are currently listed first in their Del Rio League standings (0-0 in league) with their overall wins and losses counted. The team is heading into more games in March and April, and players and coaches are hoping to build on this early success and push for a strong league run this spring. Fans are excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds.
