This week is a very sacred and special week for billions of believers in the Christian faith. The holy week is a time of remembrance of the last 5 days of Jesus Christ’s life on earth. Whether you believe he was the son of God or just a historical teacher. The last days of his life have changed the course of human history. I will be diving in these days and tell you the stories that occurred.
Monday (The Cleansing Of The Temple)
On Monday evening, Jesus came to Jerusalem and entered the temple. Instead of seeing prayer in this holy place, Jesus saw something that angered him.
Jewish Rabbis were using the temple to buy and sell items. These include sheep, livestock, and doves. Turning a place meant for worship turned it into a marketplace. Jesus was shocked of the blasphemy and didn’t hold back. Jesus flipped the tables and freed the animals and got rid of the money changers. The Rabbis were frightened and left. Jesus deemed them “ a den of robbers.” “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market”! Jesus said.
This moment shows Christ’s fighting blasphemy against his father.
Tuesday (Jesus Teaches In The Temple.)
On this day, Jesus was still in the Temple, he cleaned, he was teaching and answering questions from Jewish leaders, who tried to trap him. But Jesus answered calmly and warned them of their hypocrisy, saying, “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.” He also warned the Jewish leaders that if they failed to see him as the messiah, the temple would be destroyed.
This day shows Christ as a wise teacher, criticizing hypocrisy, and guiding people on how to love and follow God.
Wednesday (Judas Plans To Betray Jesus)
According to my research, most historians and scholars agree that Jesus was most likely still in the temple preaching the will of the Father. But while this was happening, Judas was planning something dark. Judas met with Jewish rabbis to discuss betraying Jesus. In retired Judas would receive 30 pieces of silver. They agreed, and so it happened. Judas was plotting how to trap Jesus. This day shows the unfortunate reality of human greed and betrayal, even among those closest to Jesus.
Thursday (The Last Supper & The Arrest of Jesus)
Jesus took his 12 disciples to have the last supper. Jesus broke bread and served wine and revealed that the bread is his flesh and the wine is his blood, and you would eat this in “Remembrance of me.” Jesus also showed his love by washing their feet and commanding them to show love to one another. later Jesus predicted that one of them would betray him and they would be doomed. After the last supper, Jesus and the disciples went to the Garden of Gethsemane and prayed. He asked God if the suffering could pass from him—but ultimately accepted God’s will. After this, Judas brought the Jewish Leaders and the Roman officers to arrest him. The 11 Disciples could not believe this and fought the Officers before Jesus commanded them to stop. Jesus accepted his arrest, and so they took him. The Jewish rabbis brought him in for questioning and gave him a chance to deny being the son of God, and he would be free. Jesus rejected them and stood firm in what his father planned for him and claimed to be the Son of God. The Rabbis were Furious and saw him as a threat, and so they put him in prison and waited for Governer pontius pilate Deceion on weather Jesus was guilty.
Friday (The Crucifixion Of Christ)
Governor Pilate had Jesus on the stand and asked What wrong has he done? Jewish Rabbis and much of the crowd said things like he is a blasphemer! Pilate was confused and took Jesus into a room to ask him. Are you the king of the Jews?” Jesus said my Kingdom is not of this world, but with my Father in heaven. Pilate also asked, “What is truth?” Jesus had just stated he came to “bear witness to the truth,” to which Pilate said without waiting for an answer before declaring he found no basis for a charge against him. Pilate went out in front of the crowd and told them his judgment, finding Jesus not guilty. This was upsetting to most of the crowd, and the Rabbis said, “CRUCIFY HIM.” Pilate was pressured and concerned. He gave the crowd two options Crucifcy Jesus, and in that would free Barabbas, a murderer and robber, or Jesus shall be free.
The Jewish Rabbis said to “Free Barabbas,” and so it was decided. They stripped him naked, beat him, spat on him, and whipped him. Then they put him on a cross. They stabbed him with spears, mocking him. The mother of Christ’s mother was watching along with the disciples. The last saying of Jesus while he was in pain were Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” “Woman, behold your son… behold your mother.” “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” “I thirst.”
“It is finished.” “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” After this, the Roman soldiers were panicking, feeling a huge earthquick and the temple was split into two. The Roman government in the land declared that Jesus was indeed the Son of the living God. Jesus’s body was then taken down from the cross by a man named Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council. He wrapped Jesus in linen and placed him in a tomb cut out of rock.
This moment is considered the most important event in human history, changing the world of belief.
Holy Saturday
After Jesus’s body was put in the tomb, the disciples came to Governor Pilate and told him to secure the tomb to make sure nobody would take it. He agreed and secured it.
Sunday (The Resurrection of Jesus)
On Sunday morning, 7 women went to visit Jesus’s tomb, and when they arrived, they noticed it was empty. They were concerned, but then an angel appeared to reveal that Jesus had risen. After this, Jesus approached Mary Magdalen and the disciples. They were shocked; they couldn’t believe it. Jesus showed them his wounds like the holes in his hands. Then, for the past 30 days, Jesus went on to preach to many groups of people. Jews, Romans, Greeks, and more.
Before Jesus was about to leave, Jesus commanded his followers to preach the gospel to everyone, and to “love one another as I have loved you.” He then promised that he would return one day to judge the world. He then left to see his father in heaven fulfilling his goal to save the world, dying on the cross so people can be forgiven of their sins and have everlasting life.
