Ruben Viramontes, a well-focused senior and a standout varsity soccer player, reflects on his journey as a varsity player for the Dons soccer team. He opens up on lessons, highs, and lows, hoping for future players to take his advice along their journeys.
When he was asked about his biggest challenges, Ruben stated, “My biggest challenge is balancing soccer and school. The practices can be hard at times, and I always try my best, leaving me exhausted when it’s time to do my schoolwork. I believe the soccer team is still worth joining because if you’re willing to put in hard work, you will grow a lot as a person.”
Ruben pushes to encourage future athletes to stay organized and well disciplined. “Use your time wisely, don’t wait until the last minute to get stuff done, set goals for yourself, and slowly push yourself to be better,” Ruben explained.
When asked about his toughest struggle during his journey, he explained, “My biggest struggle was staying confident; at times I felt as if I didn’t play my best, and it would push me down at times, but as I played more and grew as a person, I started to realize that these struggles come with the journey, and I started to learn to always be confident in myself.”
Ruben plans to pursue soccer after high school, hoping to play at a higher level than he is now. Soccer has always been a part of his life, as he played throughout his childhood and it has become part of his life now.
