Andrew Olague is a 17-year-old senior at El Rancho High School who is getting ready to graduate and move on to college. Throughout high school, he’s been focused on doing well in his classes while also being part of the track team. As graduation gets closer, Andrew has been thinking a lot about his future and what he wants to do next. He plans on attending Fullerton and studying engineering, which is something he’s been interested in for a while now.
Andrew says his interest in engineering started because he likes to understand how things work. “I’ve always liked figuring out how things work,” he said. “It’s interesting to me to see how everything connects and functions.” He also talked about how school helped him figure out what he enjoys. “I realized I actually really like math and physics, and that kind of pushed me toward engineering,” he explained.
Even though he’s excited about going to college, Andrew admitted that he’s also a little nervous about it. “I’m excited to go to Fullerton and experience something new,” he said. “But I’m also kind of nervous because it’s a big change from high school.” Still, he seems ready to take on that challenge and see where it leads him. I also interviewed some of his friends to see how they feel about him going to Fullerton. One of his friends said, “I’m really proud of Andrew, he’s worked hard for this and I know he’s going to do great.” Another friend mentioned, “It’s cool that he’s going to Fullerton, and I’m actually going there too, so it’ll be nice to already know someone.”
Overall, Andrew feels good about the path he’s chosen and is looking forward to what’s ahead. “I know engineering won’t be easy, but I’m willing to work for it,” he said. With his interest in problem-solving and his motivation to succeed, Andrew is taking an important step toward building his future.
