Senior ditch day is something almost every high school senior looks forward to, and this year at El Rancho High School, it’s no different. Instead of everyone doing their own thing, a lot of seniors actually agreed on one plan: going to the beach. It kind of makes sense since it’s a chill way to spend time together before everyone goes their separate ways after graduation. Plus, the idea of just relaxing in the sun with friends sounds way better than sitting in class.
I asked a couple of seniors what they were planning to do, and most of them said they were just excited to hang out and not worry about school for a day. One senior, Jason, said he’s bringing snacks, a speaker, and probably just plans to swim and mess around with his friends. Another senior, Maria, said she’s mostly excited to take pictures and just enjoy the moment because “we’re not all going to be together like this again.” It seems like for a lot of people, it’s less about ditching school and more about making memories.
Some students are also planning to spend a little money on food, gas, or beach stuff like towels and sunscreen, but nothing too crazy. A lot of people said they’re trying to keep it simple and affordable since prom and graduation are already expensive. Still, even just buying snacks or splitting gas with friends is part of the experience, and it all adds up to a fun day.
Overall, senior ditch day this year feels more about being together than anything else. Going to the beach as a group kind of shows that everyone wants to make the last few weeks of high school count. It might not be a perfect plan, and things could get a little unorganized, but that’s kind of what makes it real. It’s just a group of seniors trying to enjoy one of their last traditions before high school is over.
