Reports about a possible Iranian drone threat targeting California have sparked conversations among students. While officials say there is no confirmed or immediate danger, many students say the news still caught their attention.
Some students admitted they did not know many details about the situation but still had reactions to the headlines.
Matthew said he first heard about the story through social media and wasn’t sure how serious it was. “I saw something about drones and Iran on TikTok, but I didn’t really know what was actually happening,” he said. “It sounds kind of crazy, but I feel like the news sometimes makes things sound bigger than they are.”
Leo said the idea of another country targeting California felt strange to him. “It’s weird to think about because stuff like that usually happens in other places, not here,” he said. “I don’t really know much about the conflict, but hearing about drones coming toward California sounds kind of scary.”
Adan said he had heard people talking about it at school but didn’t know the details. “People were saying Iran might send drones or something, but I don’t know if that’s real or just rumors,” he said. “I’m not really worried though because I feel like the government would stop something like that.”
Sergio said the situation made him curious about what was actually going on overseas. “I honestly didn’t even know why Iran would want to do that,” he said. “It just made me realize I probably should pay more attention to what’s happening in other countries.”
Julian said he thinks most students are aware of the headlines but aren’t paying close attention. “I think people see it online and then move on,” he said. “Unless something actually happens here, most students probably aren’t thinking about it that much.”
Overall, students said the reports have sparked some conversation on campus, but many admit they still don’t fully understand the situation or how serious it might be.
