For the final time this year, the El Rancho Dons football team plays their last Friday night lights. Dons football came to an end this past Friday as they travelled to Pacifica for the first round of CIF playoffs, falling short 35-14. Although El Rancho lost, the boys still showed pride on the field and played outstanding games. Quarterback Adrian Lopez threw for 245 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. While on the defense, Adrian Orihuela had a total of 9 tackles.
This season the Dons had some amazing stats, as quarterback Adrian Lopez had 1605 passing yards and 13 touchdowns. Running back Braylon Morrison had 1046 rushing yards with 10 rushing touchdowns. While on the defensive side, linebacker Javier Hernandez had 103 total tackles, the most on the team. Pedro Arreguin had a total of 4 sacks, leading this team.
This season had many lasting memories for the boys. Dons football was honored to play their first match of the season against South Hills at SoFi Stadium. This game gave the players a lifetime memory of playing at that stadium. Following this game, the Dons were able to have their home opener in their brand-new stadium, which gave these boys many memories as the first year to play there.
The Dons were able to come second in the Del Rio League with a record of 3-1. The Dons opened the league against La Serna at home, losing 30-13, but were able to bounce back when they hosted California for homecoming, winning 35-21. The boys defeated Whittier and Santa Fe to conclude the league 3-1. The Dons hosted El Segundo for senior night, falling short 35-18. Although the dons lost, this gave the seniors a lifetime memory. This was a season of many memories, and although it has come to an end, the Dons will be back next season stronger.
